What is A Combustible Gas Detector ?
Combustible Gas Detector
The combustible gas detector is a term for the gas detectors that are designed to measure gas compounds at an explosive level. It is also known as the LEL detector. The reason for known as a combustible gas detector is they might also react to other compounds in the area. The problem is every gas has a different chemical structure. Therefore, their attitude will be different in the area. In a simple term, while methane gas accumulates in the ceiling, LPG gas will accumulate on the floor. Therefore, it is much better to use a gas detector configurated only for single gas.
They are commonly used in industrial areas to detect various hydrocarbon gases like LPG, Methane, Propane, Butane, Ethane, etc. In addition to that, there are some toxic gases that might require measurement in the LEL level such as Ammonia, Carbon Monoxide, etc.
The purpose of using these devices is to prevent any explosion in the facilities in case of any gas leaks.
Which sensor technologies are used in a combustible gas detector?
When it comes to sensor technology for a combustible gas detectors. There are 3 sensor technologies are commonly used in the industry which are Catalytic, Pellistor, and Infrared sensors.
