Be Safe in your Workplace
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are hazardous carbon-based compounds that evaporate easily at room temperature and are common in nature or industry. The VOC level is very high in the closed areas of the chemical facilities producing carpet, paint, cleaning materials, furnishings, glues, permanent markers, printing equipment, cosmetics and medicine. VOCs also available at outdoor sources include emissions from the oil and gas industry, solvent usage and transportation.
There are thousands of VOC types we encounter in our daily life. The most common examples are:
- Ethylene glycol
- Methylene chloride
Even with low VOC levels in the environment, prolonged breathing of this air by workers can increase the risk of health problems related to the respiratory tract. Several studies have proven that continuous exposure to VOCs has worse consequences for asthma or people who are particularly sensitive to chemicals.
Common symptoms of VOC exposure include:
Short Term :
- Eye, nose and throat irritation
- Nausea / Vomiting
- Increased asthma symptoms
- Liver diseases
- Kidney diseases
- Nervous System Disorders
It is necessary to have a heathy work environment and monitor VOC levels in the environment to be safe. Prosense uses PID sensors that can monitor many different VOC gases and provide safety for workers.
Prosense PQ series fixed VOC detector features includes:
- PQ Series base
- 4-20mA analog output
- RS485 digital output
- Adjustable alarm levels
- Optional integrated relays for alarm level monitoring
- PID sensor head with calibration certificate
- Wall mounting kit
- Integrated display (Optional)
Please contact Prosense for more details and detectable gases as well as configuration options.
